THE FIFTH HARMONIC: EARTH
Emotion
= EMPATHY WHOLENESS Body Language: Stomach, Spleen, Hips, Mouth, Flesh
Earth represents both the inner and the outer environment. The relationships between the four personalities - Metal, Water, Wood and Fire, create the element of Earth. If the other four elements are working together as a balanced community, our inner and outer environment will be lush, abundant and able to support the dreams of the one. If the four elements however, are out of balance, it will show up in our manifested experience. Earth is balance - where each life gets equal value, equal time and equal resources. This is our center, the place we are able to maintain when we are balanced. It is the equal place from which we all begin our lives. During the Earth cycle, from age 56 to 69, we become a resource to our tribe. Our life experiences, our wisdom, and our resources put us in the position of having true power to create change. When we combine that wisdom with the passion and vision of the younger generation, we can take charge of our environment and create a place of sacred experience for all. I believe one reason our eyes fail to focus on close-up details as we age is that our eyes are to be turned to the future - the long-term future - the future of our grandchildren. We must be able to see far and see clearly -and to allow the younger generations to give us their visions. By the time we have reached our Earth phase, the world is no longer ours. It now belongs to the younger generations. We must therefore listen to them and spend time with them and teach them what we know while they are teaching us new ways of being and seeing. In this way, our wisdom is not spent forcing them to learn an outdated way of living, but rather, our wisdom is spent aligning two generations together to create something marvelous. The Earth element is responsible for distributing available resources equally between the other four elements. In Fire, we give back to the environment. What is our legacy? What have we given to Earth to distribute to the next generation? If we have been stingy and withholding in our Fire element, the Earth element has to start downsizing in order to make sure all other elements get equal amounts. If we are generous and measure our abundance by the satisfying relationships we have maintained, we give back stories that inspire and activate. Earth is the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. That is why, in this model, Earth does not have a season. As we move from Metal to Water, from Water to Wood, from Wood to Fire, and back to Metal, we pass through the Earth element. Here is where we make our "deposits", as it were. The transitions between each element collect a tithe of energy that is stored for future use. As we move out of each element with satisfaction, happiness and a desire to give back, we move into Earth, for restoration and maintenance. We become a resource for others. We work to restore the environment, appreciative of all it has given us on our personal journey, and to make it a better place than when we found it. In Earth, we tend and nurture all of life and our surroundings, leaving a legacy of integrity, balance and increased beauty. |
