Welcome

Welcome to Emotional Technologies. My name is Cat Thompson, researcher, author and reality engineer.

Life is made up of stories. Stories define us – who we are, why we are here, what values our culture deem important, etc. For many years, tribal stories shaped our experience. As closely knit groups, we learned what things our tribe valued, what things our tribe shunned, and how our tribe viewed the world. We grew to adulthood using the stories we learned to mold our individual and collective experiences. Through it all, we felt that we were all sharing the same story – all building upon the same foundation.

In the past 50 years, as we have become global citizens, our stories have begun crashing into each other. An awareness that there are many stories has seeped into the collective consciousness. And if there is not one story, one true story, how do we know which story is right? How do we steer ourselves through the world of probability if we do not have a map and a set of rules? Whose story is correct?

Belief is our greatest asset. Where we choose to invest our belief will dictate our experience. When we believe in a story, we invest in that reality. When we lose faith in a story, we withdraw our belief. Believing in our own story fills us with personal power; when others invest their belief in our stories, it fills us with additional power – power that doesn’t really belong to us, only supports us. We have all had the experience of being able to do bigger and better things because someone invested their faith in our story. And we have also had the experience of what happens when people stop believing in us, and the subsequent fall from power.

Today, the airwaves are filled with people screaming and fighting over which story has more value. Because if you are convinced that their story is real – more real than your own – then you will invest your belief in their story, giving them additional power. The truth is, we only have real power in our own personal story. We rarely have power in another’s reality. So, the more people follow a particular story, the more powerful that storyteller becomes. The need to be “right” becomes greater, the shouting gets louder, the finger-pointing gets more crazy, all because the race for your belief is in high gear.

How do we know who to believe, all those people out there shouting “me, my story, my perspective is the right one, believe what I say, I know what’s right for you”, etc. That’s where emotion comes in. Emotion is the rudder that steers you through all the possible stories out there and tells you when you are on YOUR path, in YOUR story. Human beings are guided by pleasure and pain. Pain tells you “you are not in your own story, but living in another’s where you are powerless”. Pleasure says “yes, this is your story”. Think about how much energy has been put into convincing you that pain and suffering are your true path, while pleasure is seen as evil or immoral.

It is time for all of us to take charge of our own stories, and our own creations. If you are unhappy with your life, you can change it. You are the star of your movie – you are also the writer, the director, and the financier. What movie do you desire to live?

Emotional Technologies™ programs are all designed to empower you to live a better story. The tools we offer will change your perspective; and ultimately, your reality. In this ever-changing world, wouldn’t you like to know that you are living exactly the right story for you?
